Patreon Plug Time

Now that Patreon has backtracked on their decision to change their fee structure, I feel like it would be an appropriate time to plug my own patreon, which can be found HERE.

To briefly summarize it:

  • There are 4 tiers
    • Tier 1 – $1
    • Tier 2 – $3
    • Tier 3 – $5
    • Tier 4 – $10+
  • Tier 1 is the basic “Tip” level you get 1 “free” pdf a month plus access to the patron only posts, plus if you need help creating something simple, that can be summarised in one or two sentences I’ll help you or do it for you.
  • Tier 2 gets you the T1 rewards plus what I’ll help you with is expanded
  • Tier 3 gets you T1 and T2 and is expanded further with what I can help you with
  • T4 is more for sponsorship or advertisement levels for the generator pages
  • The current Patron-exclusive project is called the “Deck of Decks” – Lik...

Pre Christmas Update on things

The last couple of weeks has been a mixture of things.

First Patreon said they were implementing new fees..then they retracted that when they vastly underestimated the backlash the would get.

The work pc went belly up. Then a new one was purchased. On that front, all the programs I used before have been installed and sorted, with some minor niggles, like Word settings and so on. I can now begin the task of reconstructing the two of three items from notes and hope I can rebuild the last one from memory, or at least use the same methods.

Then, the joy of joys (sarcasm mode off) I had yet another kidney stone. Not large enough to put me in hospital but enough to put me back on the pain and other medication.

Things are defiantly looking up – at the very least normal operations should be restor...

[Tales of a GM] – Narrative Surprise

Narrative Surprise

Phil Nicholls blogs at Tales of a GM, where he writes about narrative gaming, faster prep and more story. He is currently running a HeroQuest Glorantha campaign in a home-brew setting. Phil has written for Johnn Four’s Roleplaying Tips newsletter and produced a selection of self-published pdfs.

This essay is taken from the archives at Tales of a GM.

This essay was written as a contribution to the travelling RPG Blog Carnival. In that month it was hosted by Mike Bourke at Campaign Mastery, where the topic was A Stack of Surprises.

Narrative Surprise

For many years, my understanding of surprise in RPGs was bound up in the traditional concept of who attacked first in combat...

It begins…

Welp, today, after getting what I could be saved from the old HD (which despite best efforts was zero) I have to begin the task of re-installing and formatting and laying out everything I can. This may, at first glance seem simple and easy, but the old machine was a windows 8.1 and the new one is windows 10 – which I have to admit I am starting to like.

In addition to my previous posts about my plans for the future, I now have to deal with this. This is not an “oh woes is me..” type of thing, more of a heads up to let you all know whats going on. Old programs have to be installed, tested for Windows 10, updated and so on. Then, the stage I am at now is restoring, as best I can, the old data, fonts and everything else.

Once all that is done, THEN I can start trying to recreate the latest pd...

Semi-back from disaster

A bit of a bad news/good news situation this week for me and Ennead Games.

First, the bad – Last week my work machine suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure. Whilst I do have back-ups, the latest couple of items that were ready to be released were not able to be saved. I have the notes for two out of three of them, they still need to be recreated, have the background pages format etc. In essence, I am having to start again from scratch with this and the other projects as well as purchasing a new machine.

So what does this mean? Well this week, and probably next, there will be no new releases – That and the above “bad” news.

Now for the good

Instead of the planned releases I am, from now until Christmas Day, running a sale on the larger bundles EG has on sale

One is everything that EG p...
