Resource – Hemingway Editor

This weeks’ resource is an unusual one – It’s called the Hemingway Editor. For those who don’t know, Ernest Hemingway

As with many of the websites I show you here, I’ll use their own words to tell you what it is about:

What’s the Hemingway Editor All About?

Hemingway makes your writing bold and clear. It’s like a spellchecker, but for style. It makes sure that your reader will focus on your message, not your prose.

Too often, our words are like our thoughts — innumerable and disorganized. Almost any bit of writing could use some cutting. Less is more, etc.

So, the Hemingway Editor will highlight (in yellow and red) where your writing is too dense. Try removing needless words or splitting the sentence into two. Your readers will thank you.

The website version is free to use, but there...

Resource – RPG Tinker

This week’s rpg related resource is a website for helping you make characters in 5e, RPG Tinker. It is very easy to use, with drop-down menus and stat options. Simply select what you want and hit the “build that NPC” button. There are pre-set options in the bestiary, for various types of npcs or humanoid creatures you may encounter, such as city guard, or goblins.  To quote the site – ”

Hello folks! RPGTinker is a tool for building NPCs for D&D 5e. Just choose a template, abilities scores, and hit dice, and your NPC is ready to use in battle! You can even print or pdf it!

In 5E, monsters -and especially NPCs- follow different rules to players. They are usually a “damage sponge”, having a lot of hit points and low damage. I haven’t found any other generator for NPCs, just for players...

[Resource] – OrcPub Character Builder

Today’s resource is a character builder called OrcPub. It takes the job of planning your next character and automates it in such a way as to make it AL legal.

Using the site is so easy, you can create the basic stats of a character in under a minute.

First, you select what sources of info you want, from the Players Handbook and more. Each source adds more options to what you can pick, but many of them make your character non- AL legal.

Once you have picked the sources it’s an easy matter of working along the tabs. It tells you how many options you have available and greys out the ones that your choices so far have rendered impossible, such as a fighter having spells etc.

You work through, in order if you desire..

  1. Race
  2. Ability scores – With various option of how to pick your scores
  3. Cha...

[Resource] – Tabletop Audio

This week’s highlighted resource is Tabletop Audio. For many

For many gamers, immersion is key to getting into the mindset f your character and truly enjoying the story you are taking part in. One thing often overlooked is that of sound, especially the ambient, or background sound. Tabletop Audio has got you covered. With a wide range of ambient sounds, from the fantasy genre, sci-fi, horror and more. My favourite feature is what they call Soundpad, which unlike simply putting on some music and having it playing in the background, you can tweak the settings and make your own “custom” loops . For example, under the dungeon Soundpad there are options for wind, or footsteps or fire and much more.  You can adjust the volume of these mini-tracks and have them on loop if desired...

[Resource] – Inkarnate

This week’s resource is the free (for non-commercial use) website known as Inkarnate.

Map Making Resource

Inkarnate is a free o use website for making fantasy themed maps.  These maps, as with any other software, are only as good as the designer, but with this, you can make something approaching the maps you see in printed books and supplements with relative ease.

With Inkarnnet you can…

  • Sculpt and paint continent, land masses and islands
  • Uses the brush tools for “painting” landscapes
  • Add settlements, towers, castles etc with ease
  • Place forests, mountains on your map
  • Annotate with text and notes

As with many of the sites llike this, the best way to see what it can do is to try it for yourself...
